About Ariel

If you are looking for practical, authentic, effective martial training in Wing Chun, JKD inc grappling, FMA/KALI. Working individually or in small groups you will learn the art of self expresson under the stress of combat. I have over 20 years experience in the arts and a knack for communicating the necessary knowledge and helping you achieve the fitness level required. Classes can be structured according to special needs, please discuss your needs with me.

As a normal part of progression in most schools, senior students will be asked to share knowledge with younger students as it completes the triangle of learning and cements the knowledge. As I was aware that I wanted to teach, it was a natural progression to persue certification.

I have trained privately for 15+ years. I have trained at the Institute of Defensive Methods for 8+ years. This is a JKD, Kali and Wing Chun school. I have also served as an instructor at the school for 4+ years. Additionally, I have numerous seminars and suplemental training courses in the above arts with instructors like, Dan Inosanto, Paul Vunak and Samuel Kwok.

About the lesson

First comes an evaluation class so that i can see your movement and we can discuss the goals of the training. We will also discuss any health concerns that will impact the training, as it is important to adapt training to the physical limitations of the student. once this is sorted, we will progress with the basics of stance, forms, drills, movement and philosophy. As the students attributes and knowledge increase, the elements of training also advance. Once skills have advanced sufficiently, light sparring is included in the routine periodically to help build timing and confidence in more realistic and 'live' environments. This last, element will vary based on the needs and tolerance of the student.

I have worked with children, adults and disabled students. it is important to mention here that the student is more important than the style. While guiding principles like effectivness, efficiency and excellence are core, they are expressed through the student's attributes and capabilities.

Meet your potential instructor, take an evaluation class, speak with the instructor. Determine if they have the knowledge you are seeking. Most importantly, discover if you have a rapport with the instructor. Is this a person you can learn from and feel comfortable with. I am old school in this regard, the teacher student relationship in martial arts is about trust and reapect. If you don't trust and respect your teacher, you are in the wrong school / class.

A student I hadn't seen in some time was visiting, and in the process of discussing and working through scenario, the student was anle to provide valid responses based on our previous time together. The reason this meant a lot to me is that if your students internalize the principles taught, they will have a better chance to survive a dangerous encounter. Empowering students is one of my core goals.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should ask about additional training costs that could be incured for training. Ask if the teacher has any experience in dealing with any specific health issues and limitations relative to the student. Discuss if the training can be adjusted to specific goals such as competions or specific advancement schedules.
