About Pam

Geometry is my specialty, but I know what students must know before getting to me. I also know what they need in Algebra 2 and beyond. I am dually certified in Special Education and specialize in multiple representations to find the method that fits the student.

I enjoy seeing students grow. While they might not like math, they do learn to appreciate it enough to earn their high school diploma

I have always wanted to be a teacher. I worked hard to pursue my dreams.

I have taught for the past 26 years in public schools.  While Algebra 1 and Geometry have been the primary focus of my teaching, I have taught all math courses from math 6 - Algebra 2.  I have taught in the General Education class, Co-taught Gen Ed class, and small group setting.  I have the ability to modify the content to the level of understanding of the student.

BS in Mathematics

BA in Secondary Education

MS in Secondary Mathematics Education

I currently teach Geometry in the small group setting.

We meet in a public place like a library or coffee shop. I have the student walk me thru what he/she knows and we quickly identify the area of struggle. I use the resources the student brings first. I reteach the material in a manner the student understands. I use resources that I have to supplement what the student uses in the classroom or at home.

I have worked with students of all levels.  I prefer the on level and below level students.  I find students who struggle with math to be my favorite.

Look for someone who specializes in the area you are struggling in. While I would love to say I am certified K-12 and can tutor all levels of math, I know my limits.

I suggest finding someone who is honest about the levels they are fluent with.

I am fluent in Algebra 1 and Geometry. I am familiar with the middle school curriculum because I have raised 3 children through the latest standards change. I have taught, and I am familiar with Algebra 2.  However, I would not feel comfortable tutoring Pre-Calc or Calc because it has been so long since I have been exposed to the material.

I gave a student a calculator and my phone number before the EOC in April.  He did not use it.  He failed the course.  I transfered schools.  His teacher contacted me early next school year to tell me he was not doing well.  I reached out to him.  Now that I was not his teacher, we could work together regularly.  He passed first semester.  It was so heart warming to hear he passed.

It is a struggle to help someone who does not want the help; but when the hard work and weekly tutoring results in a better understanding (and higher grades), it is all worth it.

I enjoy working with students who struggle with math because we all have something we are not good at.  And we all have something we excell at.  If we all share our strengths, we will all help the world be a better place!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What did I try on my own?  Have I tried everything on my own?  Did I reach out to my teacher and ask for help?  Have I exhausted all other free options?
