About Paolo

I ove to see 'the click', when the pieces are all put together and someone finally understands the concepts that they'eve been struggling with. Math and physics is a lifelong journey and one that won't make sense the first, second, or even fiftieth time you approach a certain concept. It's never me versus you, but us against a problem, and i'd be honored to be your guide.

I love sharing my passion for math and physics. Calculus for me is so beautiful, and so many concepts in physics are made so elegant by the formulas that represent them. My passion is what drives me to study and learn more, and I love being able to share that passion with others who don't have my same point of view. I've been doing this since high school and all throughout college and I'm always over the moon when someone with zero interest in the subject comes for help and leaves with a newfound appreciation. It doesn't have to be total mastery, and that may come with time, but simply deriving some pleasure from what you may be forced to study will always make things easier and more enjoyable.

My parents work in the art world, and so were not the best homework help, especially when it came to math and sciences. However, they pushed me to explain what I learned and I would end up teaching them! Throughout high school and college, I found that if I couldn't explain/teach a concept, it meant I didn't fully understand it. So I made my study sessions into teaching sessions, where I would try to teach through the curriculum to my friends and they would do the same.

I tutored in college for high school students studying for the SAT, as well as my peers in various levels of calculus and physics (my favorite is quantum mechanics!). More recently, I've been working with younger children between the ages of 4-10 with elementary school math. While you'd think that knowing calculus and above would help with the more basic stuff, the challenge is that what they find difficult I take for granted that I use it on a daily basis! However, putting myself in the shoes of someone who's first seeing this content expands my appreciation even more. Wherever you are in your journey, I'm happy to meet you there.

About the lesson

I prefer to get to know a student and figure out how well they learn. Everyone learns differently, and my job is to try to figure out how best you absorb information and work towards those strengths while we tackle any weaknesses in your knowledge.

I have worked with elementary, middle, and high school aged children, as well as other college students. I've found elementary school students who could grasp calculus concepts better than my peers! It all depends on meeting the student where they're at and remembering what it's like to learn this concept for the first time. My main expertise is working one on one with a student.

Is the teacher still learning? I've found that my best professors are the ones who are still pushing themselves to learn new things, and who understand that learning happens differently for every student.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Does their teaching style match your learning style? When I've approached others to help me learn, those who assumed what I did or did not know and didn't allow me to clarify my misunderstandings did not do very well. When I was allowed to ask "dumb" questions, sit with the content for a moment, and try to reframe the problems in a way that made sense to me, I grasped the concepts much more easily. That is how I learn, by asking, processing, and rephrasing in a way that makes sense to me. How do you learn? And if you don't know, what did your favorite teachers do that made you want to learn?
