About Stephanie

I have a passion for math and for teaching.

My goal is that every student reach their potential and feel confident and capable that they can succeed.

I have a Masters Degree in Geology and I tutored math starting my freshmen year of college until now. I have used Basic Math through Calculus in my past jobs for the last 12 years.

I enjoy helping students and seeing them succeed.

I have been teaching since undergrad.  I have always enjoyed being able to help those around me understand material that they are struggling with and see them ultimately excel.



I have a Masters in Geology which requires advanced math.  I tested out of Calc 1 in college and took Calc 2 and 3 my freshmen year of college.  I tutored math all through undergrad and into my adult life.

I like to get to know the student first and then work with something the student is confident in and build towards the area in math they are struggling with.  For example: if the student was confident with the previous math subject I would start there; figure out why they were confident in that subject and why they are not as confident in the new topic; then work towards getting them to excel in the new topic.



Elementary age through College students.



Make sure the teacher can see the math.  Now, what does that mean?  If the teacher can only explain the process that is in the book and not expand further or explain the math beyond that, they will not be able to teach all students.  If the teacher can see the math, then they can explain it where it will reach each individual student and ultimately help them to succeed.



As it relates to math?  My older sister went back to school recently to become an art teacher.  She is and has never been a strong math student.  She also lives in Utah.  She called me every week to get help on her math assignments and I was able to help her.  She will tell you that my help is the reason she passed her math classes.  I love that I was able to give her the push she needed to succeed.  My sister graduated Summa Cum Laude.

In my personal life?  I recently got married to my best friend.

What, at a basic level, am I struggling with? Is it understanding this particular math process or is it not understanding arithmatic or a dependence on a calculator?

Details

If I travel to a student the hourly rate is $35

If the student comes to me or the tutoring session is online via video chate the hourly rate is $30 dollars.  

I prefer the first tutoring session to be in person.  If the customer is not satisified with my services and does not want to continue the lesson is free.
