About Alissa

I am a local high school and college math teacher. I have been teaching high school for 6 years and college for 4. I know Columbus State and Ohio State Math classes very well as I have taught for both. I enjoy helping students feel confident and successful in math especially if they have not felt that way before. I have Resident Educator License and know common core standards well. I seek to help students truly understand what they are doing when they solve math problems. I can also assist in SAT/ACT prep or prep for various high school classes. My specialties are Geometry and Calculus but I can also tutor in Pre-Algebra, Algebra, College Algebra, Trigonometry, pre-calculus and up to Calculus 2. I have worked in both Ohio and the state of Florida. I prefer to meet at a common location like a library or coffee shop. Preferably Upper Arlington Library or OSU campus. However, I am flexible for travel with compensation.

I have always had a passion for mathematics and my desire to help students understand mathematics began through tutoring in high school and college. I thoroughly enjoy working one-on-one and helping boost confidence and understanding.

I have my Resident Educator License and 6 years of high school/college teaching experience.

About the lesson

I prefer to have one session for the parents/students to communicate their goals and expectations. If I can get information about this ahead of time I will bring a plan for how to get started. Once we find an appropriate plan I will spend the first two sessions getting to know the students as we work through material to see what additional suppemental material is needed. Then from there we move forward to meet your goals!

I have worked with a wide range of students from freshmen in high school to college age. I have worked with students that struggle and hate math as well as students that are far above their expected level of mathematics.

Details

I typically charge $35.00 an hour as long as we are meeting at one of my preffered sites. If we need to make other arrangements we can work out compensation. If you are requesting tutoring for ACT/SAT I will use materials accessible online and from textbooks, but if you want to address particlar test taking strategies you will need to purchase materials. If you are seeking tutoring for college coures above Calculus 1 the rate may range from 35.00 to 45.00 an hour.
