About Anne

I love math, pretty much every part of it. I've been tutoring since college 20+ years ago. I am currently retired from my career as an actuary and from tutoring again the past two years, have found that I really enjoy working with students on getting better grades in their math classes. I have a bachelors degree in Mathematics and can help with any math from middle school through college. I have also done Excel teaching for college students who needed help in that area. My preference is high school/college students but will teach younger students.

I enjoy teaching. It brings me joy seeing the light go on for students who finally understand a concept.

I started teaching in college, then had a career as an actuary and am now looking for some part time work outside of bothering my college age son daily.

I have a bachelors degree and post graduate work in mathematics. I was an actuary until about 3 years ago. I have taught in private school, college, and have tutored for over 5 years.

About the lesson

We usually spend the first half hour discussing what the student wants to see improvement in, how he or she is completing homework and assignments, and what sort of schedule I think would work for the type of improvement you want to see. I am available 12-16 hours a day through text to help outside of teaching, especially when you want to solve something quick outside of our teaching time.

I have worked with students who struggle with math classes, those who generally excel with math classes and now are struggling due to the newness of the subject or because of missed time, and anything in between. My general philosophy is that if the student wants to learn, I can help get them there.

If a teacher tells you that they can teach you everything you need in an hour each week, they're not being truthful. Tutoring in any math class requires work, by you and your tutor. Math isn't the evil subject you believe it to be. It can be interesting, hard, and fun, all at the same time.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I think first off you have to be honest with yourself. Are you spending the time you need to be spending on this subject?
Secondly, do ask your tutor if they are available outside of tutoring times (and if there is a cost for that). If you're working on homework that's due tomorrow and don't see your tutor for 3 days how do you manage if you're stuck?
