About Mary
I am a certified teacher in Elementary Education. I have been a teacher for 9 years.. The last five of those years, I have worked with students between the ages of 16-25 who was given a second chance to earn their high school diploma. I have been working with and helping students succeed in many settings and situations. I have stayed after school, worked one on one and tutored, all in an attempt to help students enjoy success. I have helped them process through difficut times emotionally and acdemcially. I enjoy helping students to learn and learn more effectively. I understand that sometimes it is necessary to lay aside academics and address the social and emotional issues that students face on a daily basis. I am technogically savy and have used it to enhance the educational process. I am committed to my students until they succeed in the goals that they have set.
I love working with students. I love the experience of the aha moment when they understand a concept being taught. I also enjoy mentoring students through whatever they are experiencing and watching them grow.
I started teaching after I presented a training program for teenagers. When it was over I volunteered with a teacher for 1 semester. I fell in love with the students and continued to assist. After that I decided to become a teacher.

MA in Youth Ministry - This training assists me in understanding the difficulties that young people face and has equipped me with strategies designed to help them process through these difficulties.

I take sometime to listen to students and hear their story of their journey in learning. I listen as they identify, as far as is possible, their areas of strength and or weaknesses. I also have a conversation with them about their learning styles and help them to understand why it is necessary to know how they learn. My next step will be to assess them in the subject area(s) they will be working on.
When I volunteered it was in an Adult Education class. I have worked with students who have struggled in Math and Reading. I have also worked with students who were studying for their GED as well as with ELL(English Language Learners) students teaching them Reading and Math. I have worked with at-risk, students, students who are struggling with Math and Reading and students who need general assistance in progressing through school.

Mrs.Collins was the best and most influential teacher I've ever had. She is patient and kind, she didn't give up on me when I couldn't understand. She found new ways to explain the problem to me so I could be successful. I was able to get my GED and pharmacy technician license with help from her! A great teacher isn't always easy to find, I'd have to say, she is definitely one of a kind!
