About Zachary

I am currently an elementary teacher at a Blue Ribbon Award Winning school in Algonquin, IL. I have taught both 4th and 5th grade over the last 8 years. I am certified to teach K-9th grade in the state of Illinois. I am a young male elementary teacher who struggled in school, so I make it an emphasis to break down my turoring so students understand and are excited to learn. I am familiar with Illinois state standards and teaching techniques. I love sports, and played basketball in college, so time managemet and organization is a strength of mine and can offer students the same skills.

I love helping others, especially kids! I teach to make an impact on the children of the future! Students these days need positive role models who have the full intention of helping students grow academically and as a person.

My mother is a teacher and I had her as a teacher for many years in elementary school. I always had a great respect for the work my mother did. I always struggled in school and was diagnoised with learning disabilities as a young kid. I don't want students to struggle the way that I did and to feel discouraged like I did. Thanks to great teachers and role models in my life I was able to be successful in school and eventually not use any of the extra support I was given due to my learning disabilities. I love helping others, especially kids!

I graduated from Jacobs High School in Algonquin where I played 2 years of Varsity basketball. I then graduated from Loras College with a degree in Elementary Education and an endorsement in Special Education. I have been working at the same school in District 300 for 8 years now and I absolutely love it. I currently coach middle school cross country and boy's basketball. I have many years experience working with students with disabilities and feel comfortable tutoring ANY student!

I like to get to know the student first, likes, dislikes, learning preferences, etc... After lerning about the student I would to introduce and describe who I am and things that I like, dislike, etc.. After discussing and building a teacher-student relationship I would like to set a couple learning goals for tutoring. After setting goals I would start with simple material and increase as needed. It is important to know the whole student in order to meet his/her needs.

I have worked with elementary students of all ages. I have taught 4th and 5th grade over the last 8 years. I have experience working with students with learning disabilities and various academic and emotional challeneges.

Pick a tutor who you think you can connect with and form a positive relationship with. You have to trust this person and rely on them to help you. Make sure you are going to feel comfortable asking this tutor questions! Have you ever had a male teacher/tutor??

One recent event that I am fond of is that I received my Master's Degree in Educational Technology. As an elementary/middle school student I would have thought that this was impossible!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students need to do a self-evaluation on their goals and needs. Students need to understand their own strenghts and weaknesses. Students need to built off of their strengths and improve their weaknesses. Be honest with yourself!

My rates are flexible depending on the material taught and duration. As a guess I would normally charge about $50 for in person (gas, etc..) lesson and between $35-$45 for online lessons. This is subject to change.
