About Juan
I am a sophomore at Stanford University, where I am studying Economics and Statistics on a full-ride, merit-based scholarship. As a highly self-motivated student, my drive and joy comes from “lightbulb” moments when concepts make intuitive sense. It’s this intuitive understanding that I hope to develop and convey in my teaching style.
In my senior year of high school, I founded a student-run tutoring group that offered standardized test preparation. My efforts and initiatives directly lead to an average 100 point uplift in SAT scores within the cohort. As someone who personally struggled with standardized testing, I learned the twists and turns of the SAT and managed to increase my score by over 200 points. My performance on the SAT largely formed the basis of my teaching mantra — I aim to appeal to all kinds of learning styles and paces.

Initially, I like to assess a student's knowledge regarding a particular topic before diving right into tutoring/actual instruction. Thereafter, I adopt a conversational approach to learning. I want my students to feel comfortable learning.
I have worked with students in elementary school through high school.
I would strongly suggest to focus on finding teachers who are effective communicators. Many instructors are equipped with technical knowledge and know-how, but often lack the ability to concisely and effectively convey information to students.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What is not allowing me to learn this information on my own? How can a specialized tutor help my particular issues?
