About Derek
My Name is Derek Essegian and I am a physician scientist with an interest in academic medicine and medical education. I received my bachelors in biochemistry and masters in chemistry from NYU in 2012. Following two years of research at the prestigious Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI), I was matriculated to the medical scientist training program (MSTP) at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. I earned my PhD in Pharmacology with a focus on machine learning and cancer drug discovery in 2020 and completed medical school in 2022. I am a member of the medical honor society, Alpha Omega Alpha, and am the author of numerous scientific publications. I have over 10 years of experience in tutoring and mentoring students in chemistry, biology and pre-medical sciences in addition to serving on the medical school admissions commitee. I have witnessed the tremendous growth of my mentees and have seen them attend top universities and medical schools.
I first began tutoring while at NYU as an undergraduate student, teaching organic chemistry. During my gap years between starting medical school, I expanded my tutoring to high school students in NYC, teaching AP chemistry, AP biology and pre-calculus. While a medical student, I additionally began tutoring students for MCAT preparation and higher level courses such as biochemistry.

Details
Tutoring starts at $100/hr for Zoom session and $150/hr for in person sessions. Two hour sessions are discounted at $50. Five hours are discounted at $150 and ten hours are discounted at $400.

Sessions must be paid in advance require a 24 hour notice for cancellation. There is a 50% refund policy for sessions with less than 24 hour notice.
