About Megan

I will always remember what it was like as a student when I felt lost or overwhelmed. I remember the feeling of dread when the teacher/professor moved on to the next topic and I am still confused by the previous one. I remember not knowing where to begin or what questions to ask to get back on track, because as you know, knowledge always builds on itself. You must have a firm understanding of topic A before moving to topic B and C. I also remember the feeling of FINALLY understanding, feeling a wave of relief and accomplishment after help from a teacher, a peer, or figuring it out on my own. I get pure joy out of being that person who helps another get to their "ah-hah moment" and you can see their energy shift from feeling defeated to now feeling accomplished. In undergrad I was hired as a chemistry class aid, I helped peers and students form study groups and review sessions, I was the person everyone went to for essay proofreading and editing, and I was the go-to family friend who helped a student through all stages of highschool math classes, biology, chemistry, and anatomy. I have education on a broad range of topics and I believe I have the skills to break down complex topics into easy to understand concepts.

Education is a critical part of my day-to-day job. I am currently a registered pharmacist working for a retail pharmacy. Educating my patients on their medications, complex treatment regimens, and chronic illnesses make my job worth waking up for each day. I consider myself a "people person" and I am always looking for a way to connect with others. When I am educating or counseling a patient of mine, I make sure to explain and answer all questions until they feel at ease. One day I would like to go back to university education and teach in my field of study which is pharmacy/pharmacology because this is a passion of mine and an area of study that many other health professionals have a difficult time understanding.

I do not have any formal training in education, but while I was an undergraduate student I was hired by the university as a chemistry supplemental instruction (SI) leader, where I held small group study sessions, answered questions, and helped students work through practice calculations. I also helped complete homework/tutor for family friend through all levels of high school math, chemistry, and biology/anatomy. During my undergrad and graduate years, I was the "go-to-person" for editing and proofreading papers/essays to aid in sentence structure, vocabulary choice, punctuation, and grammar.  Also while completing my graduate degree in pharmacy, I was leading study groups prior to exams and creating study materials for peers. I have education on a broad range of topics and I believe I have the skills to break down complex topics into easy to understand concepts. One day I would like to go back to university education and teach in my field of study which is pharmacy/pharmacology.

I am fairly new to tutoring in a more formal fashion, therefore pricing is negotiable based on what you can afford, level of material difficulty, how often we are meeting (online or in person), and low long each session lasts. I am willing to offer first few sessions free of charge to make sure I am a good fit. Generally I would charge $15/hour, and go up from there depending on the variables listed above.
