About Ana

I am a student at Miami University and I would like to provide my services to my peers as well as anyone else who is struggling. I have excelled in mathematics my entire life, and I find it beneficial for kids to get help from someone closer to their age rather than someone much older, which can be intimidating. Recently, I have been offering help for algebra, but I am also very proficient in pre-calc and calculus I. In fact, last semester I earned the highest score in my class on the Calc I final (99%) as well as the highest grade in the class. I would love to share my knowledge with my fellow students in a comfortable environment, let them ask the questions they might usually be afraid to ask, and show them how to love math!

I got started tutoring because of my mom. Besides being a math teacher, she was also a tutor on the side. Since I am very good at math, I helped her out once she had too many clients to teach on her own. I help my friends and classmates with math all the time and I've developed a passion for instilling what I've learned into others.

I have received a high school degree from Barrington High School in Barrington, IL. My mom is a math teacher and has provided me with the skills on how to convey my knowledge to people who may not understand at first. I never ridicule students for not knowing something or asking a "stupid question" because I am in that position all the time and sometimes I just need someone to walk me through it.

I usually like to get to know a new student first so we can establish a trusting and comfortable relationship. Then, I want to be informed on past math classes they have taken and which areas they have struggled in. Also, before the session, if they are currently in the class I would like to see what is on their present assignments and exams. From there, we can move forward and set up a track for long term, or I can just help out with a few problems once.

I have worked officially with high school students, but I always help my friends in college with their homework or studying for tests.

Don’t get discouraged if you don’t understand a concept the first time. The point of individualized tutoring is to create a customized learning plan based on your specific needs. Overtime, we will figure out what style of learning helps you the most and you'll be getting good grades in no time.

Recently, I was tutoring a high school student in algebra to get a solid base for her upcoming geometry course. She came into our lesson having a very hard time with simplifying radical expressions. We worked together for an hour, and I gave her some problems to take home for next time, and the next session I was so impressed by how much she excelled!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should try to pinpoint the exact area they are struggling in. There might be a certain type of math problem that the student is having a hard time with, but what mechanism exactly is the issue? I also think that it's beneficial to set goals and create a timeline for what the student hopes to gain out of seeking a tutor.

I charge $40 an hour. If the request is just to help with a couple of problems and it takes much less than an hour, the price is definitely subject to change.
