About David

There is nothing more satisfying than seeing a student's face light up with recognition. I strive to bring that feeling to each student I tutor by explaining concepts in an elucidative way that connects other topics and show how every part of math is connected.

I have been tutoring for 1.5 years at Moorpark College, and I also do private tutoring. I tutor everything from Pre-Algebra up through Multivariable Calculus and aim to bring new subjects into my repertoire as I learn them.

I started by privately tutoring some friends in prealgebra and algebra, and I worked to get a tutoring job at my college at the same time I was able to attend college as a full-time student, just graduated from high sschool. I have been tutoring at my college since the Fall 2019 semester. During this time I have worked as a teacher's assistant and led weekly group tutoring sessions in addition to my normal schedule in the Tutoring Center. While I do not intend to make teaching my career, I am interested in earning enough credentials to be able to teach college-level mathematics.

I am currently pursuing an Associates' Degree for Transfer in Mathematics that will apply towards my bachelor's degree in pure mathematics. I also look to getting at least a master's degree in mathematics or another related subject.

About the lesson

I first connect with the student, then we move to the problem. I identify the core objective of the problem, then I explain this to the student in a manner that hopefully excites them into further solving the problem. I aim to connect with the student as much as possible through our conversation and the problems we solve together.

I have worked with students in elementary school up to college students my age, and I have also helped adults of all ages through tutoring at my community college. If there is a student that needs help on a problem, I'm ready to help them.

Look for a teacher/tutor who you can connect with and can make the topics you're studying feel engaging and fun. They should be more than willing to explain any questions you may have as that is one of the fundamental aspects of being a teacher.

I decided to restart my college's math club, which had not been renewed in several semesters. I quickly amassed a medium's sized group of students who were interested in joining this new math club, and it was this month that I sat down with the club's Executive Boardand planned the Spring 2021 semester for our club. Serving as Secretary is exciting, and I have plans to only move up from here.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Each student should identify the specific things they struggle with, whether it's a certain type of problem, a subject in general, or if they have some disabilities that should be addressed to their teachers so the teachers can provide the appropriate accommodations. Determining any of these things on their own helps the student understand what they really need help with, and the teacher/tutor knows exactly how to help the student.

My rate is a fixed price per hour. Every 15 minutes spent over an hour adds a quarter of my hourly price onto the session cost.
