About Jana
I have been an elementary school teacher for 15 years. Math and reading are my passions. I'm a member of a local maker space where I can be creative and learn new skills. I have taught gifted students as well as those for whom English is their second language and those who have severe learning challenges. I believe that every child can learn especially when their own unique interests and learning styles are interwoven into what they are learning. I am friendly, patient, encouraging and I truly enjoy teaching.
I want every student to feel comfortable and confident about their learning. I enjoy seeing students progress and the happiness this can bring them.

When I first meet with a new student, I like to learn about their interests and hobbies and what they would like help with. If possible, I could talk with his/her current teacher to see which skills to focus on. I like to make learning hands on a relevant, so I use a lot of hands on, manipulative activities. I like to get students performing at grade level as soon as possible, so I give a few brief assessments so see where to focus our time and energy.
