About Natasha

I specialize in teaching children ages 4-15 elementary math, and algebra. I teach based on the curriculum given to them by their teacher and help breakdown the material in a way that they can easily understand.

One thing that I have noticed about the math lessons from different teachers is that much of it can be difficult to break down for students to understand. Moreso if the teacher is simply rushing through the lesson without giving their class the chance to process it.

I am glad when I see that a student begins to understand the material better once I help them break it down. I am estatic when the information begins to click in their minds and they are able to attempt to solve the problem on their own.

I've taught children between the ages of 5-15 on how to approach and break down problems over the years and first started tutoring when I was in High School. A few of my other classmates in Algebra needed help and I found that I was good at breaking down the lesson in a way that was easy for them to understand. I began to tutor younger children in my neighborhood who were struggling to understand the lessons their teachers were rushing through.

I am an undergraduate student at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ majoring in Nutritional Science. While I am not studying to become a teacher I have spent the last 10 years helping and even teaching younger children solutions that make math problems less unnerving to solve. I know from this experience that learning mathematics in school can be frustrating, especially since there aren't enough hours in the school day for the teacher to continue breaking the lesson down.

About the lesson

In order for me to help a student with their math I need to know how the information is being taught to them. The way that a teacher approaches a lesson could be completely different from the way that we learned it when we were children ourselves.

I have also seen that a teacher may take points off if a student hasn't done a problem the way they taught it in class even if it has led to the right answer. It can be frustrating and extremely confusing to the student. I do my best to break down the lesson so that the information is easily digested.

I recommend looking for a teacher who can relate to the frustration of learning mathematics. Teaching isn't just placing a lesson in front of a student and simply expecting them to solve it. It is also about helping them in the best way you can.

I myself used to hate math in school because the teachers' explanations were always confusing to me. I learned much more from my tutors because they understood the frustration that came with working with numbers and were able to teach me how to break it all down in a way that I could understand. I use the same methods they taught me in order to show how a problem can easily be broken down and solved.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I believe that students should think through what exactly it is that they had trouble understanding in the lesson. Where was it that they got lost? What section of the lesson do they feel is going to give them the most trouble? Did they understand most of what was going on?
