Tony Shimkin is an award-winning composer and producer with extensive experience placing music for advertising, film, TV and Video Games. Music Supervision, A&R, Publishing, licensing.

While My work with Major Recording artists is often highlighted, I’ve been working with developing artists for much of my career. I have moderated and been a panel member on many industry professional panels, providing insight and feedback into the industry and aspiring artist’s work.

I’ve worked as a engineer, producer and composer for 30 years. I learned my craft in in the worlds best recording studios and from the best engineers and producers in the industry. My experience started as a young musician in a band using 4 and 8 track analog home recording. I then worked my way through a legendary NY recording studio, learning with the best consoles, tape machines and vintage outboard gear available from the best engineers and producers in the industry. I’ve worked on my craft for 30 years professionally and have learned all the new technology as it has been developed. My specialty is working with Pro-Tools and all related software.

About the lesson

I want to get to know what inspired you musically to spark the desire to be an artist or to want to create music. Technology can be intimidating but it doesn’t have to be. I work with people to make them comfortable creating with the tools available to them. My goal is to keep the creative process fun and for the student to understand WHY we use the processing we do, and that knowing the fundamentals of recording and mixing can simplify the process and create a quicker and simpler work flow. I also like to break down the music they love and the likely process behind the creation of it, so they can gain an understanding and appreciation for the craft involved in creating it.
