About Dana
Hello! I am a classical singer who loves to help people figure out the healthiest, most beautiful way to use their voice. I received my bachelor's in Vocal Performance from Wheaton College and my master's in Vocal Performance from Western Michigan University. I currently work at the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and perform in the new music ensemble called Found Sound.
My first experience teaching a voice lesson was during my undergraduate program for a Pedagogy (essentially the art and technique of teaching) class. I had to work with a private student for a semester, keep a detailed journal of all of our lessons, and teach her in front of my class and proffesor. It was incredibly intimidating but I learned so much.
I have two degrees in music (B.M. Wheaton College '17 and M.M. Western Michigan University '19) and have been teaching private lessons for several years now. I worked as a Graduate Teaching Assistant during my masters so I taught a college course for young singers as well as assisted proffesors in their own classrooms.

I know singing in front of other people or taking a lesson in something new can be intimidating so I try to make the first lesson as comfortable as possible. I'm not going to ask you to perform for me or "sing something you know." We will start out with some basic singing exercises so you can get comfortable using your voice and I can hear what is going on. I do also like to spend a good portion of a first lesson talking and getting to know you and your musical experience. It's hard to learn anything from someone you feel like you don't know or can't trust.
I have worked with very beginners (never had lessons before) to first-year voice majors in college. I WILL NOT work with a child younger than middle-school age as the voice is not mature enough to sustain repeated training.
