About Hannah

As a teaching artist, I bring together my passion of visual art and academic learning. I believe art is an important part of the human experience and should be accessible to everyone. My lessons are personalized and aimed at anyone interested in supported exploration and development of their creative skills; limited to techniques and materials readily available to the average person. I also offer more traditional visual art lessons for younger students, where we explore the life and works of a specific artist before we create our own artworks inspired by that artist.

I combine my background in education and art to provide my students with a hands-on, personally relevant, and culturally connected learning experience.

With nearly a decade of teaching experience and a life-long obsession practicing and studying art, I am always looking for new ways to keep students engaged in learning and creating, especially beyond the formal context of a classroom. I love working with people of all ages in a wide range of artistic media. When working with students, I focus on the artistic process, creative exploration, and connections between artists, the work, and cultural context. As an artist, I often explore new materials and techniques, allowing me to better teach the flexible, outside the box, thinking that helps my students develop their own artistic styles with open-ended projects. I work with my students set clear learning objectives and support their growth, in both private and group settings.

About the lesson

I begin with a consultation, discussing student goals, prior experience, and expectations. During the consultation, we will work together to set up a learning plan that works best for my student. When starting lessons, I like to begin with a examples and a demonstration aligned with my student's creative interests and learning goals. I help my students break down the creative process and provide a clear focus for each session. Because I prefer to keep projects open-ended, there is no prescribed outcome for my student's work, leaving a lot of flexibility in how I spend time working with students. Generally, I curate materials and resources, and provide hands-on support as students push the limits of their artistic abilities, both technically and creatively.

I have worked with students of all ages, but have specialized in working with K-12 students.
