About Elaine

I see art classes, sewing and crafts as away to be in the present. Your mind has to be in the moment to guide your hands to create. I use sewing as therapy, keeping the machine moving with the heart beat. You will be able to accomplish something in first class. Seeing your progress in every piece, creating expectations in what can be done next class. Your imagination is your only limitation. And if you want to learn some alterations, we are happy to build classes around your wishes.

I love to see the students’ faces when they finish their work. It's a easy way to create something useful in a short period of time and very pleasurable. The student can see his/her progress in every piece finished. The satisfaction and feeling of self-accomplishment help them in different areas of their life. I see as a therapy where your mind is in the moment.

In order to graduate from a self-development and leadership training, I had to create a Legacy project. My project was to teach sewing classes to unprivileged kids and youth. Thought this process, I meet my boss and mentor, and together we created the first classes. She brought me the kids and the machines and I had the space and the knowledge.

I have a AA in Graphic Design and BS in Fashion Design and Architecture. I have a Millinery CErtification by Ania Caliendo.

I worked with fashion as a seamtress and dressmaker for the theater industry for 8 years. I teach sewing classes and work in production at a non profit for 4 years. I also teach summer fashion classes at Young at Art Museum.

About the lesson

I like to connect to the student and make sure we understand each other, communication is key. I like to teach new students about the sewing machine, how it works and its maintenance. This brings confidence as well as an understanding of the equipment.

I worked with first time sewers kids and adults as well as special needs youth.

I can provide different classes as per student request.

Such as how to work with patterns from store, basic alterations, accessories making, home decor and upholstery.

I also provide a Halloween/ Cosplay costume making.

You must connect with the theache, be honest and comunicate in order to have a successful class.

Right now I'm exited for Day of the Death and Haloween 2019
