About Nina

My business stands out because I create lasting memories, I set students up to create wealth by teaching them life skills, I go to my students, I impart my 50 plus years of experience in fashion, art and design, I teach the basics and move to the intermediate level and then students proceed to the advanced level. When they finish, they have the tools, confidence, and skills necessary to build their own business in fashion, art and design.

I attended Arts High School (a performing arts school) in New Jersey as well as The Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, NY. My desire to sew came at the age of 9 when I received my first sewing machine. I began sewing for myself and progressed to sewing for others. Being a teacher by profession brought about the revelation to marry my gift of teaching with my first love of sewing which is my calling. I am a firm believer that "If you teach a person how to fish, they will eat for a lifetime!". I am SEW looking forward to connecting with students one stitch at a time!

What I most enjoy about the work I do is seeing the excitement and joy on students' faces when they realize that they can take a 2D piece of fabric and transform it by creating a 3D outift which they can wear in a short period of time. I also enjoy passing knowledge forward and being blessed to be a blessing.

I got started teaching through a natural progression of fusing my love of sewing and the arts with my calling to share what I know with others.

Attended a high school for performing arts as well as received training from The Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC.

About the lesson

My typical process for working with a new student is to introduce ourselves, set some expectations and timelines to be accountable to oneanother. Review a syllabus and start the lesson with an introduction to Sewing 101 - the Basics and go over Safety in Sewing.

The type of students I have worked with are youth (elementary through high school).

The advice I would give a student looking to hire a teacher in my area of expertise is to look for an instructor who is passionate about the subject and loves to share their knowledge with patience.

A recent event that I am fond of is seeing the excitement and enthusiasm of a student when she showed her parents her first completed project and how proud she was.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
The questions that students should think through before talking to teachers about their needs are...

1. Am I serious about learning the art of sewing?

2. Am I open to learning something new?

3. Do I want to specialize in any particular area of sewing (ex. fashion, accessories or home decor)? And ask the teacher if they have experience in that area.

4.Will what I learn be something that I can turn into a profession?
