About Holly Aloha

I have been making art and painting my entire life.

I graduated from art school with a dual major in painting and photography, then received my masters in creative arts therapies working in hospital settings with the mental health and addictions populations.

I’ve taught art across the lifespan at my studio north of Boston for many years. I’ve exhibited and have won many awards from the Marblehead Festival of Art over the years for painting, photography, collage and mixed media. I have exhibited my art since high school and undergraduate school and for the past few decades in Boston and on the North Shore.

I receive students by word of mouth from professionals I know in the mental health profession to people that knew someone who recommended me.

I was a dual major at Mass Art in Boston in painting and photography. I’ve been painting and exhibit my art for many years. I’ve won awards and have volunteered working with children making art as well as taught private lessons to adults at my studio.

About the lesson

First first we talk about where the student is in their process such are they a beginner, experienced or having a creative block. We’ll discuss subject matter, style, still life vs imagination, etc. If the student is a beginner a still life will be set up to learn about light, color, shape and form, unless otherwise discussed.

Adults,seniors, and children.

Choose an artist who has a passion for painting: looking at other people’s art, going to museums and openings and someone who loves what they paint. Ask questions about their style and if they are able to support someone with different ideas of painting, for example the student I had who painted”outside the box”. Perhaps a student wants to paint abstract. Hooray!

A woman with mental health challenges took painting lessons from me for a couple of years. She loved animals and painted many dogs. Her style is called “outside the box”. I arranged a solo art exhibit for her at a local church gallery and it was well attended. Her care takers, parents and community were proud of her but most of all it made her happy and raised her confidence.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Somewhat like the above. The student should think about the time and commitment they choose for painting, the supplies needed, the subjects they’re interested in, unless they are open to discover this, are they comfortable with one on one teaching or up to three other students max.? Is the student a beginner and therefore new to painting? Has the student painted for a long time but benefits from direction and constructive criticism? Does the student prefer oil paints or acrylics? Would the student be interested in painting out of doors in good weather?

Most artists don’t want to rush through a half hour session so my sessions can be one hour, one and a half veto two hours. Occasionally I will hold a painting workshop on a Saturday for the day. The prices rang. Sfrom $50., 70, 90 to $200 for a Saturday workshop with maximum of three students.
