I took classes with Valerie, for many years. I had forgotten how to paint after 2 TIA's. With patience, she worked with me and brought my ability to paint back. She also taught me many new methods in watercolor painting. We had fun while I was re-learning and making new friends. You'll Love taking classes with her.

I have been taking lessons with Valerie Toliver for a little over a year. I do not feel that I am an artist but I have always enjoyed anything to do with art. Valerie works with each student at their own level and teaches fun techniques to help you with your projects. She teaches about the watercolor paper, paints and brushes and has watercolor paint that can be rented for a nominal fee if you do not have your own paint. She also offers inexpensive projects that can be purchased to do, at home, on your own. Valerie is a very talented and caring teacher who wants to see each of her students succeed with their watercolor projects. She helps with, and explains, adding depth to the painting with shadows and lighting. I enjoy each of her classes and my friends and family are always amazed at what I have accomplished. I would highly recommend taking a class with Valerie to see what you can create and enjoy some "me" time along with a bit of art therapy at the same time.

She is extremely talented and brings a common sense approach to watercolor techniques that allow you to paint with confidence. I have come home from a few lessons feeling amazed at what you have created! I will continue to work with Valerie!

Valerie is a top notch teacher. She teaches several methods, introduces new colors, keeps projects interesting and is patient and helpful.

Valerie works with students at all levels in her classes, giving individual instruction to each one. Everyone could be working on a different project at the same time. Valerie supplies projects and lessons or lets students bring in their own to work on. She is humorous and fun to be around but puts 100% into her classes. If you are brand new Valerie starts you off with an exercise to teach you technique. She constantly has valuable tips to share from her years of experience. No matter what level you're at you can gain value from Valerie's classes and experience.

I have been taking classes from Valerie for about 7 months. Having recently relocated from Seattle, I was in dire need of reviving my long-lost passion of painting and also finding new friends. Valerie has helped me accomplish both. Her style of teaching is very casual, relaxed & supportive. She provides her students the individual attention needed in efforts to express ourselves through our work. I have been extremely pleased with all of my completed projects and look forward to the weekly comradery of my newfound friends.

I walked into Val’s class never having painted a picture of anything in my life..not to mention ever painting with water color! I had NO IDEA what to expect nor what I was getting myself into… Valerie’s class was the perfect place for me! I felt welcomed at my skill level of ZERO and when class was over I felt welcomed to come back! Valerie has the ability to teach a class of all levels at the same time and it was through her instruction that I have learned the techniques of watercolor but it has been Valerie’s passion and joy of watercolor that has caused me to fall in love with watercolor. I am learning all the time from her generous outpouring of experience and expertise. Valerie keeps it fresh with new projects that are always technique conscience and challenging her students creativity and personal style. I also love the diversity of fellowship with the other students and look forward to every class time. And did I mention how much I love watercolor painting??
