About Randal
My methods of instruction are acclaimed as among the most effective learning experiences by my students. I teach the physical sciences, religion, and physical fitness. After many years of teaching teachers in graduate science education courses, I have become adept at student-centered learning. My students range in age from 1st grade through adult. I take great pains to offer the student a full learning experience: intellectual, rigorous, and physical. As a Marine and former geophysicist trained in field research, I make sure that students do not neglect the health and emotional benefits of spending productive time in physical activities outdoors.
I enjoy the physical aspects the most. That's why a component of all my geological science, meteorology, and fitness training takes place outdoors. The combination of theoretical, practical, and field instruction is more readily grasped and retained by students than classroom and laboratory instruction alone. I must admit to a measure of personal satisfaction when "the light bulb" turns on during a student's learning experience.

Since textbooks and other resources are produced from a certain point of view or with a certain emphasis, I prefer to purchase or subscribe to the resources prior to beginning instruction in order to provide the best learning experience possible. Sometimes authors or proofreaders make mistakes. I like to catch these before meeting with the student and point them out afterwards.
