About Alec

Teaching artists of all experience levels how to let go of inhibition and connect with their internal creative energy. Heavily focused on mind/body connection, flow state, and tapping into higher versions of spiritual awareness through the use of color and geometry.

(Please feel free to contact me personally regarding art classes at alecjohnson.art or on any social media)

I enjoy seeing the intensity on someone's face as they focus on shading or coloring something just right. I enjoy the moment of clarity which comes after I'm able to answer a pointed question about some style, and the smiles that are raised upon witnessing the finished work.

I began as a physics instructor who painted on the side. While taking science teaching courses at UTD I began studying Art History as an elective and started to explore the different mediums and styles. I never put my brush down again!

Studied Studio Art and Art History at The University of Texas at Dallas, as well as being a member of the UTeachDallas program for up and coming teachers.

About the lesson

Setting an intention for their artistic journey and discussing possible pathways to take through coursework to achieve that goal.

I've worked with students of all ages, from elementary school to high school, college and beyond. My coursework focuses on unlocking the potential creative forces that each student brings with them to class, no matter how old they are or how long it has been since they have expressed themselves freely and creatively.

Just let the artwork happen, don't overthink it. Don't let your thoughts get too involved, just paint from your heart and make adjustments as necessary. Trust that the artwork will happen as it is supposed to happen for your learning. Know that not every piece looks exactly the same way it did in your head, but that is okay.

Recently, I began taking yoga classes at a local studio and have made great progress both spiritually and physically. It has allowed me to see myself in the instructor role for something other than a public school physics course, and I'm excited to be taking the step into becoming an independent art instructor.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
How do you prefer to express yourself? What is it you are trying to say? Is there a medium that stands out to you that you would like to try? What does artwork mean to you? What do you want to receive from this course?
