About Richard

I have over 30 years of photography teaching experience to beginners

I love teaching and communicating what I know to others. Seeing beginners taking their first steps to making the kind of photographs they love is really very rewarding.

Most of my college photography teachers were so bad at what they did I was inspried to be a better teacher....well let me qualify that- most were really good photographers- however they often did not understand the scientific aspects and exposed and developed film by trial and error. One teacher really could not photograph at all- his images were terribly boring- old hoses laying in a dusty field etc... - He was hired as he was an expert in writing NEA Grants... he was indeed an excellent grants writer and brought money into the FA College.....

BFA in Fine Arts, 41 years of professional photography experience

About the lesson

I make an appointment for a 2 hour session for either working at their home or photographing together in the field

Beginners and intermediate photographers... usually professional photographers already know how to make great images- I help them most with computer issues such as workflows and image post processing.

Pick someone who likes to teach- there are many excellent phootgraphers - but if they are not a skilled teacher they cannot effectively communicate what they do and know...

I worked with Zeiss lens company to demonstrate their Milvus and Otus lenses to a group of plastic surgeons.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What would you like to accomplish- fine art B+W, landscapes, portraits, architecture. Also- are you self motivated to take images ( fine artist) - or do you prefer to have a reason to make images- ( like documenting your family life ) or possible starting work as a commercial photographer.
