Typically it starts over the phone. My wife or I discuss the process and timing, and we set up an intial appointment.
At the initial lesson we meet in person to discuss their needs and then determine how to best help them advance their skills.
I work with young teens through retirees.
It is helpful if you make a list of your questions asa they occur to you. Often times I have people sitting with me in the studio or out walking in the park and they get frustrated because they know they had a question but can't remember it.
Make a physical list on paper or your phone. You'll be glad you did.
I recently lead a small group workshop to Yosemite and Sequoia National Parks. It was a great group of photographers and we had a delightful time.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Scheduling time to pratice between sessions. When we meet we will go over your questions, identify areas for improvement and discuss new techniques to address the areas that are challenging you.
You need to set aside time shortly after we meet to put what we have discussed into practice. The longer a person waits, the more difficult it is to remember.
