About Marilyn

Piano Lab is a dynamic group piano studio located in Alexandria, VA. Our mission is to provide a fun, convenient, and affordable option for achieving lifelong musicianship. We have a team of creative and loving teachers that provide classes for ages 4 and up both in studio and online. Our studio classrooms are equipped with 8 electric pianos and our Zoom classes utilize multiple camera angles, interactive media, and plenty of sharing with friends! We are currently offering discounts on our Jump Start For Beginners Summer Camps! Register soon!

I love spending time with my students. Knowing that my words and actions have the power to lift them up and inspire them is an incredible honor. I love to create curriculum that supports different learning styles, keeps the process fun, and ensures that my students truly achieve musical literacy and proficiency.

I studied music from the age of 5, minored in Piano Performance from American University, and have worked as a professional musician for the last 25 years while also teaching hundreds of wonderful students!

I opened Piano Lab after teaching privately for 25 years. This program maximizes student success by leveraging peer encouragement, varied learning activities, steady achievements, and performance moments.

About the lesson

Students can begin with a FREE Online Demo class. Or you can schedule a private assessment to determine the best class placement.

We teach absolute beginners starting at age 4 as well as intermediates and adults. Our program is designed to support varied learning styles and take students from their first keys to college readiness.

Try out a lesson! We offer demo classes, observations, studio tours and online assessments. It could not be easier to see if our program is a good fit for your student.

Each year we host our Student Showcase where classes perform as a team. They master a classical theme and write their own original blues. They are accompanied by a live band, wear team t-shirts, and celebrate together with food trucks and ice cream.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out

I love that the focus is on music education as well as learning to play. They keep it fun for the students but also find ways to keep them practicing, engaged and learning! I've been super impressed with how quickly they adapted to distance learning as well.

Piano Lab uses different techniques to engage with their students - learning to play/read music, playing games, learning history/how/why of different instruments, supporting their classmates. Although it is a group learning environment, the kids still get some individual attention and also learn to support their classmates. Piano lab made the switch from in person classes to virtual classes seamlessly and my daughter hasn't missed a beat.

Very family orientated, a child-friendly, effective, creative class environment that has pushed and taught our son piano when we were out of idea's/one-on-one instructions. We would definitely recommend the cost-effective class to anyone.
