About JAMES

I like to see where my students are so initially I have them play so I can see what they need help with. I love to teach music theory because it can apply to all instruments. If the student is not interested in theory then I can teach specifically on each instrument. I also offer to accompany the student with a different instrument. So if I am teaching a drummer then I can play bass along with them to establish their rhythm. I can also accompany on the bass for a Piano student or vice versa so the student gets used to playing and hearing other instruments which other Studios do not offer. Students should expect a non cumbersome way to learn their instrument without having to endure the often frustrating and detrimental methods traditionally used. Typically other teachers often introduce new students to reading only which slows the learning process down tremendously. It's a new day and I believe different methods should be used. I like to get the students up and running quickly so that they do not get frustrated and quit early. I believe this is essential in the fast-paced technological world we live in. I like to start out with chord construction and harmony for younger students so they don't lose interest as can happen with typical methods such as reading only. I like to develop the student's ear for harmony and which chords go with what chords! Scheduling is always flexible.

I have been a musician over 50 years and delight in transfering my knowledge and experience to young minds!

I have studied and played professionally for over 30 years and have dozens of published works through various publishers and labels!

About the lesson

I need to see where the student is presently before I begin to teach so it is not repetitive or too advanced for the students. ThenI ask the student what is their goals and try to approach lesson with what is in their mind instead of what I have in mind going in. I understand as a student how frustrating it can be learning something that takes a lot longer than necessary!
