About Barb

I offer amazing one-on-one online piano lessons to students 8 Years old and up. I have worked with students of all ages and abilities both in-person and online. With more than 24 years of teaching experience, I have learned that no two students learn in exactly the same way. I love watching students learn new skills and play peices they thougth might be beyond their ability. It is fun to watch their confidence grow as their skills increase.

I originally started teaching from my home back in 1996. From there I moved to teaching in the local music store. By 2005, I owned the store along with another teacher, and we have had anywhere from five to seven other teachers working under us since that time. I have recently branched out into online lessons and absolutely love them. There are huge opportunities for students to learn and to experience new things--plus we get to connect with other students from all over the country.

I have been teaching for over 24 years and have managed a studio with seven other teachers. I have a masters degree and have worked in education with students of all ages and abilities.

About the lesson

If someone is interested in potentially taking lessons from me, I first set up a free 15-20 minute consultation. We make sure that they have the needed internet speed and a computer or Ipad that will work for lessons. Beyond that, we talk about their goals and what they want to get out of lessons. If it feels like a good fit for both of us, I will schedule them in my studio and we will get started with lessons.

I have worked with students as young as five years old all the way up to adults in the sixties and seventies. Along with working with all ages, I have also taught all levels of piano. I am at my best with intermediate students who have some basics and really want to get to the next level. However, I work well with just about anyone who really wants to learn no matter where they are at in their piano journey.

I would look for someone who not only knows their subject matter, but for someone who can work with you as an individual. No two people learn the same way, and you need someone who values your strengths and will help you to build up your weaker areas.

Also, there are many great materials out there and lots of ways to learn almost any concept. A teacher who has a broad knowledge of what is available and can make these things work for you is going to be the best fit.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Think about what your real goals are. Do you want to play for fun? Are you going to be auditioning for college? How much time can you commit to learning each week?
