About Maureen

Songbird Piano Studio is my in-home piano studio located in Dorr, Michigan. As a piano I structor, my goal is to teach my students note reading, rhythm, music theory, and most of all to develop a love for all kinds of music! I utilize many teaching materials based on the individual students learning style, and love the FJH Piano Adventure series.

The piano room is located on the lower level of our home, and we have a comfortable living room area just off of the piano space for parents to relax during lesson time while still being present. You are welcome to utilize this space if you desire, or drop your student off and come back at the end of their 30 minute lesson.

Lesson times are scheduled on the same day and at the same time weekly, for an entire school year. Summer lessons are also available beginning in June and running through early August. Payment is expected for the entire month at the first lesson of each month, at a rate of $15 per lesson. There is a $10 cancellation fee for any missed lessons.

All books and other learning materials can be purchased through Amazon.com!

I have over 15 years experience in piano education, and have references available upon request! Some of my college education centered around music history, vocal training, and piano education. I've had numerous opportunities over the years to accompany choirs, individual vocalists, and other instrumentalists for performances, including local and state competitions.

I'm also a mom of 3 young kiddos, and love seeing the world of music burst open in my students' minds and hearts.

About the lesson

I like to have an initial lesson or two to make sure your student and I will be a good fit. If the student has had previous music instruction, we will find a good jumping off point and get going near where they last had lessons.

Brand new students will begin with basic music education such as low and high sounds, music alphabet, dynamics, basic theory, and shortly begun learning the Bass and Treble Clef and note reading.
