About Brittany

I am very passionate about using music as a tool to glorify God and encourage others. I graduated from Cedarville University with a Bachelor of Arts in Music degree and concentrations in harp performance and keyboard pedagogy. I strongly believe that a well rounded musical education is important to playing with excellence and emotion. I teach the sheet music/theory side of things, but I also teach how to read chord charts, play by ear, improvise and compose your own works. I have professional training in writing so I can teach the nuances of writing song lyrics as well. I teach harp, piano, voice and combinations of the three (such as playing the instrument and singing). I receive much joy when my students blossom in their instrument - it truly does open up a whole new world of possibilities! I myself have amassed a great many wonderful experiences through my freelance career as a harpist/vocalist and as a teacher. Come embark on a musical adventure with me! I'd love to help you on your own exciting journey!

I enjoy creating beautiful music with my students and watching them develop, not just as musicians, but as people. I love it when they use their abilities to bless and encourage others. I have played and performed for people in church, nursing homes, hospitals and dining halls. It is incredibly gratifying and humbling how blessed they are by it. I love for my students to experience that as well. Music is a lifelong skill that brings so much joy to the player and listener alike!

I've been singing ever since I can remember. I started piano at 11, violin at 15 and harp at 16. I participated in church choirs most of my life and I played harp and violin in a local youth symphony in high school. I graduated from Cedarville University with a Bachelor of Arts in Music degree and concentrations in harp performance and piano teaching. I studied harp and voice under Jackie Davis and Susan Plemons and sang first soprano in the women's choir under the direction of Beth Cram Porter. While in college, I won the Cedarville songwriting competition in both 2017 and 2018.

About the lesson

For a new student, I typically use the first lesson or consultation meeting to introduce them to the instrument, assess what they know and decide what book would be best to use. I decide how to beat teach to that particular student's learning style because not everyone is exactly the same. Then in subsequent lessons, I get them going on note reading, scales, chords and so on.
