About Jacques

I went to both Bak Middle school of the arts and A.W Dreyfoos school of the arts. While I did graduate some time ago, I am still very familiar with the audition processes/what they look for. If you are just interested in starting out in piano, or would like to go to a performing arts school, I can provide all of the guidance you need in order to have a successful audition!

I love teaching people. Whether you're wanting to start learning piano for the first time, or looking to fine tune the skills you already have, I thouroughly enjoy working with people of every category of experience out there!

I actually started teaching fellow students while attending liberal arts school! They could elect to take an intro to piano class where I was a TA and would teach them from the ground up.

I have been playing piano for over 13 years and attended a liberal arts middle school and high school. I have performed for years over multiple venues, large audiences, with groups/ensembles/symphonic bands, and so on. I am very familiar with every sort of aspect of piano playing someone could want to be a part of!

About the lesson

I first ask what exactly the intention is behind wanting to play. Is it just for fun? An audition? These things are really great and helping my steer what direction to go with the lessons? Then more specific things can be uncovered such as skill level, progression, etc.

All kinds and different experience levels! However, the majority of students I have worked with are just very passionate about music and were looking to get into playing!

Come ready to learn, but also have have fun with it! Taking it too seriously in the beginning can leave you frustrated and can be a big turn off for people just starting out. Also, really understand that piano is "what you make it". The more you put into it, the more you'll get out! You can progress at all different levels, as slow or as quick as you want. In the end I am just guiding you, but you're the one putting in the hard work!

A recent event I am fond of would be doing well in my engineering classes last semester. Takes a lot of stress off my back for the summer!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What are my goals? Is it just for fun, to entertain, for an audition, etc? What kind of music do I eventually want to learn how to play? How many hours of practice am I willing to put in? Do I think I would learn better through more time with demonstration, or trying it myself?
