About Philip

I recently graduated from UMKC Conservatory with a Masters in Piano Performance where I also taught around 25 students weekly. Before that I received my Bachelor's in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from Hastings College where I also taught private piano lessons for 5 years.

I believe in creating an engaging, fun, positive atmosphere that focuses on student's strengths while also seeking to improve students in every musical aspect, to create a well-rounded musician. Through self-discovery, I aim to lead the student down a path where they encounter the importance, beauty, and creative opportunity that music provides, and obtain the ability to perform, listen critically, and create the beauty that is music.

I started teaching a couple students during my undergraduate years and that quickly grew to over 20 a week. However, this is the first time that I will be teaching without being in school, which will help me focus more on providing quality lessons!

About the lesson

I have worked with a wide variety of students, my youngest being 5 with my oldest being an adult and everything in betwee.

Do your research, ask for references and contact them. Cheaper is not always better when it comes to hiring a piano teacher!!

Witnessing a student succeed at a hard goal musically and finding joy in the process has been the most rewarding event.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
The student should always be upfront right away with what they want to get out of lessons. Their is no point in taking lessons if the teacher is not adapting to what the student wants to get out of it. Contrarily, learning a new skill is not always easy or fun all the time and can lend itself to frustation and hardwork. This is normal and should be expected, but the results will be worth it!
