About Alyssa

I am a singer, songwriter, producer, and pianist. I gained teaching experience as assistant choir director and piano instructor at Music in the Village at Elon University. I worked as an assistant for Vocal Coach Nick Cooper at the Vocal Corner Store, an artist development center that has fostered artists including Beyonce, Katy Perry, and Nicki Minaj. In addition, I gained experience working at the Music Technology Lab at Elon University assisting students with music production and recording projects.

For voice, I specialize in commercial music, with soul/R&B. I am also classically trained with a breadth of experience in vocal jazz, musical theatre, and other genres. I have over 15 years of experience in piano and voice. I also teach songwriting and won 1st Place in Elon University’s Songwriting Competition. As an artist, I understand the importance of merging expression with technique. My performance experience combined with my background in music technology lends itself to a holistic approach to teaching.

I graduated from Elon University with a B.S. in Music Production & Recording Arts and double major in Music in the Liberal Arts. Through formal training, I gained performance experience, and knowledge in music theory, ear training, songwriting, composition/arranging, music history, music production & recording, and music business. I gained performing experience through Electric Ensemble (singer/songwriter), Techtronica (Pop/EDM), Elan (Vocal Jazz), and Camerata (Choir). I performed as a vocalist and played keys, as a soloist, and arranged music for these ensembles.

I have open availability and flexibility around setting up appointments.

I live and breathe music and love sharing my passion with my students. (Without music life would Bb!). I am an artist so I approach music from the angle of self-expression. I want to take my students to the next level of honing their craft and inspire them to tap into their innate gifts.

About the lesson

I like to first get to know the student and figure out what they're looking for so I can tailor the lesson to their specific needs. I will ask about their background in the subject, level of experience, specific area of interest including genre, if they have any other related interests, and what they want to work on. I want my students to get the most out of each lesson.

I have worked with students of all ages and levels from complete beginners as young as 5 years old to experienced college students and adults.

I specilize in commercial music for singing, music production, songwriting, and piano. If you want to work with me, you can expect me to stretch you outside of your comfort zone so you grow. I aim to inspire each student to become their best version!

One of my students was so excited about my lesson that she reached out right after asking what we would be learning in the next one.

Details

I charge $48 for an hour lesson as a standard price. My students generally will take between 1 and 3 lessons a week.
