About Chris

My approach is non traditional. I teach students to play by ear. This is a valuable skill to prepare to play keyboards in a band. This is not traditional classical music training . I focus on Pop and Rock styles more geared toward adults and young adults preparing to play in a rock band, worship band or top 40 dance band.

I provide a unique opportunity for aspiring Keyboardist s to learn a proven approach to playing keyboards in a live band.

Several years ago, 2 other keyboardists in Washington DC based bands approached me to help them with their technique and learning new material more quickly. I decided to go ahead and teach private lessons with the intention of helping to develop the talents and skills of other keyboardists in the DC Area

I've studied music at Interlochen and Florida State University. I have more than 30 years of live performance experience. I've performed in cities all over the east coast, and opened for many notable national acts including: Michael McDonald of the Doobie Brothers, The Romantics, Loverboy and others.

About the lesson

Intially, we have a quick discussion to determine experience level.

Once we've determined the student's experience level, we set goals and I share my strategy for helping the student to achieve those goals.

My first students were keyboardists in bands. One wanted to learn songs more quickly. The other wanted to learn blues and improvisation.

Reading music is a good fundamental for those who want to become classical concert pianists, but this is not my specialty. I teach students to become keyboardists and preprare them to play in a band situation.

I have performed in front of crowds ranging from 500 to 10,000+. I have performed at Pier 6 Pavillion in Baltimore, Harborfest in Oswego NY, Hometown Holidays in Rockville MD, and other various festivals, theaters and stages throughout the Eastern US.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What are your goals ? What do you hope to achieve through lessons ?

I took lessons with Chris when I had just started playing in a band. He was very helpful in assisting me with the art of improvisation and charting out chord structures. These skills were ones that I was able to use as I continued to perform in various bands.

Yes. Lessons are 50.00 for 30 minutes. I believe in keeping lesson times to 30 minutes as longer lessons can be tiring and eventually cause the student to become jaded and lose interest.
