About Michal

My teaching style is to differentiate instruction based on the needs and desires of expected results of each student. I have worked with students of many ability levels and enjoy watching growth. Let's get you to your goal and have a great time doing it!

I love watching the excitement of student accomplishments in learning to play songs they relate to and feel accomplished in playing them.

I started teaching piano lessons right out of college where I received piano instruction as part of my BS in Music Education. Personally, I started taking piano lessons and age 9 and I never looked back. Playing the piano is one of my favorite pasttimes.

I taught piano in a classroom music lab situation for more over two decades allowing me to learn to pace students of all ability levels and interest levels along with teaching in my own private studio.

About the lesson

My process for beginning to work with a new student is to assess the student's skill level and determine the student's strengths. The student's ability to apply the early level steps and the speed of the progress allows me to move the student to a level that challenges them enough for them to make good progress and yet not overwhelm them. I ask a lot of questions to check for understanding and bring back information taught from prior lessons to make sure the student is maintaining necessary basic info to secure a solid foundation.

I have worked with students of all ages.

I would advise a perspective student to ask lots of questions of the perspective teacher and also give lots of info to the teacher to make sure you are getting the most out of your lessons.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should have some goals about what they would like to accomplish in learning to play the piano. They should think about what type of music they would like to play i.e. classical, pop, hymns, etc. They should know what the teacher will expect from the student as far as preparation weekly is concerned and they should be ready to commit to practice. It is the only way to learn to play!
