About Andrew

I spent five years teaching at the Music & Arts store in South Austin's Sunset Valley. This was where I really fell in love with teaching private music lessons.

I have made my living as a professional musician and music teacher in Austin, Texas for the last 10 years. I studied jazz performance at the University of North Texas, and have continued to take lessons from professional musicians I admire throughout my career. There is always more to learn.

About the lesson

Note: I am only teaching remotely at the moment.

My philosophy is learning by doing. That means learning the fundamentals through learning real music. As a pianist, I accompany all my students in and out of lessons. As soon as you learn five notes, we're playing a blues together.

At my recitals, which include my students on saxophone, clarinet and flute, as well as piano, I accompany all of them on stage.

This makes for a more comfortable and enjoyable performance for everyone.

I have worked with old and young, men and women, boys and girls, English speakers and Spanish speakers, total beginners and prodigal talents.

I have also worked with a few students with special needs. This requires creativity and patience, but it can be done.

Details

I charge $25 per half hour for my lessons, and $45 for an hour. I also like to make myself available for a consultation over the phone. This helps to ensure that I am a good fit for the student.
