About Laura

Since 2005, I have taught music both privately and in classroom settings. Now I am delighted to be offering piano and voice lessons conveniently located at the Trinity Church in Topsfield.

What's my teaching style? I strive to be an encouraging, thoughtful and responsive teacher. I come to each lesson with possibilities in my head based on what I know about my students, and I really take care to be a good listener to assess how they are doing and what they need to improve. I maintain organization, focus and clarity and encourage students to do the same. My approach is always a little different based on the student, since different personalities and skill sets pose different needs. This is where being a thoughtful listener is key.

My goal is to be clear and helpful with my students and to empower them to teach themselves. It's important for learning to be smooth and continuous, so I pay attention to my students and do what is needed to help them challenge themselves, engage fully, and have fun.

Music is one of the greatest gifts, and with great joy and care, I aim to help students find the music inside themselves and bring it out!

I enjoy empowering students to find the music inside themselves and have fun playing and singing! It's a joy to help them learn and grow.

I have taught music to all ages both privately and in classroom settings since 2005. In 2011, I graduated with a Bachelor of Music from Ithaca College. I studied opera with Johanna Meier at the Johanna Meier Opera Institute in South Dakota and with June Anderson at Opera Viva! in Verona, Italy. I taught ESL, special needs, and general education in the public school system. I have performed regularly as singer, pianist, and organist.

Details

A 30 minute piano lesson is $30. A 60 minute piano lesson is $60. (Voice lessons are $35 for 30 minutes and $70 for 60 minutes.)
