About Myra C

I began teaching piano lessons when my children were younger and at home. I have always loved the piano and love to teach children how to adopt a love for music and for theory. I do not just teach children to put their hands on the keys and"play". I am a huge proponent of theory and I encourage individualism and creativity. I believe every person is born with their own "song" and I encourage that song to be played through my students.

I am a pretty old fashioned teacher. I believe that if you have a true desire to learn piano the correct way- you will give it your all. There is really nothing I love more than seeing children learning to play and then watching them developing their own style. I teach keyboard to students at my church who are interested in learning to play worship music. I have also played keyboard for many years in churches. I personally took lessons from a teacher who came to the USA directly from Germany. She was extremely strict and to this day I am thankful for my 10 years I spent with her. She instilled values and taught me how to truly love music-both playing it and listening to it.

I only teach beginner children because pre teens, teens and adults already have it in their heads what they want and if not provided to them- they up and quit. I am not into learning piano on Youtube- although there are some wonderful tutorials that can be used to supplement,

Children are resilient- they are eager to learn and will give it their all if they can see their own accomplishments.

I love watching children learn to put sounds together - I love watching their faces as they play and learn something new- I love watching their reactions when they accomplish a new piece. There is no feeling that compares to being there with a student as they practice over and over and struggle with a piece they feel is too hard- and as we continue to press through it together--- suddenly they "get it" and you can see the relief on their face---- their smile says it all.

Piano lessons offered by Myra C are tailored to each student's needs and level. Lessons can also be held online. Lessons are also available in Whiting. The first lesson is free to define learning goals and methodology.
