About Jacelyn

It's so exciting to start a new musical friendship with you! For the past 25 years, I have been teaching piano and voice lessons as well as accompanying in our greater Kansas area. With my late father a double horn player and music minister and my mom a music educator and piano teacher, I was blessed to grow up in a very musical home. Most of my childhood was spent at symphony and choir rehearsals and performances, dance, music theater practices and performances, piano lessons, church and my two of my sisters basketball games. You could say I’ve spent most of my life “on the bench”. :) My parents modeled how to include the whole family in the music they made. It has been my joy to continue their legacy and cultivate new generations of musicians.

As a Piano and Pedagogy Major with a Minor in Music Theory and Composition from Oklahoma Baptist University, I have had the privilege to learn how to not only further my piano performance and vocal skills, but my degree focused on and further education continues to be how to teach piano and voice in a way that is tailored to each individual student. I also use Social-Emotional Concepts to connect with my students while striving to deeply understand how they learn and view their world. Accommodation for every way of learning is what I strive to provide. I enjoy teaching musicians of every age and skill level past first grade. Piano is the best instrument to start learning the fundamental elements of music before moving to other instruments in school band or for your own enjoyment. If you need help with music theory or passing your piano proficiency, I am here to help.

From ABRSM , Faber to Suzuki methods and other repertoires, online apps and tools as well as composing and arranging music for my students, we will use many tools to tailor to you and maximize reaching your goals. Being able to adapt to the digital age is an important part of my lessons. While the classics are fundamental, modern music is just as important. It is fun to learn songs we hear on music platforms and apps as well as Disney, the radio, movies, video games and Youtube. I am able teach you how to learn to play by ear, accompany yourself, as well as be a part of a rock band, church band or jazz band in school. While we learn piano, we will also learn music history, theory and how other instruments work with us.

Learning music will have its challenges but be kind to yourself and be brave to try something that seems difficult. Even though I am a teacher, I am still a student of music. I have been at one time or another, right where you are. I have sat on the bench just like you and I believe in you. We are going to explore new sounds and have fun adventures. I am so proud that you are joining the journey that awaits you.

Your lesson time will be thirty minutes once a week. We will have three lessons a month on weeks one, two and three. This format gives us the fourth week off every month. It helps with burn out and major holidays. I will help you learn how to practice on your own as well as set practice goals for you to accomplish each week. I will not assign more work to complete on the off week. As we go along, I will map out a plan tailored just for you. If you have certain goals you want to reach, we can do it! I promise to give you all the cheats.

Regarding cancellations and schedule conflicts. If you have a school concert, sporting event, doctor appointment, vacation, camp, tryouts, or death in the family, I will always make up for these types of absences. All I ask is to be given early notice at least 24 hours in advance if possible. Any makeup lessons need to be made up in the same month if at all possible. Lessons do not carry over from month to month. Refund are not available for missed lessons.

Please know I do not use social media for my business and will not be posting you on any websites or profiles. I am a very private person and respect your privacy too. My desire to help you be successful and enjoy your creative process. Please feel free to contact me whenever you need me. My students are my extended family.

About the lesson

Piano lessons offered by Jacelyn are tailored to each student's needs and level. Lessons can also be held online. Lessons are also available in Wichita. The first lesson is free to define learning goals and methodology.
