About Samantha
I am not the typical tutor that comes in and just tries to teach your student something then leave when they've got it. I believe that students will learn and retain information better when they are enjoying how they learn. I take into account their learning style as well as activities they enjoy and try to accommodate my lessons into those activities to keep them engaged!
I have been working with children aged mainly 6 weeks to 12 years and some middle school. It's been the most rewarding and exciting time for me when I get to share knowledge and teach them and see how they grow into intelligent young addults. I couldn't imagine doing any work that doesn't involve teaching in some way shape or form. It's what I do best and the thing I love the most.
I interviewed for a class called Ready, Set, Teach! my sophomore year of high school. I was accepted and spent my junior and senior year learning to write lesson plans, practiced teaching my own class, and eventually moved to student teaching in elementary and middle school. The class was designed to teach you how to be a teacher. How to interact with parents, how to notice learning disabilities, how to write lessons, how to execute those lessons and how to guide all teaching to the learning method of the student. Once I graduated I never even thought about different work. I absolutely loved being in the middle of engaging children to learn as much as possible.
I was a student teacher in high school for elementary and middle school kids, as well as a school age teacher in a few private schools, including Stepping Stone and LeafSpring, as well as a counselor for after school programs that also focused in helping the children with their homework.

I want to understand their learning style first and foremost so I can construct my lessons to how they will learn best. A need to build trust that I am there to help them and show them how much fun learning can be. New students act differently depending on whether they have had a tutor before, so I want to make sure the student understands I am there to help them learn and understand parts of their schoolwork that they might not be getting right away.
I have done a little teaching in SPED classrooms, but most of my experience is with children Pre-K through 5th grade. I've taught math, science, social studies, writing and reading.
You always want to feel comfortable and confident in the person that is teaching or tutoring you. Never resist to ask questions if you have them. If you want to know why they teach or how they got into it or how long they've been doing it, ask. If you don't feel 100% confident that you are with the right teacher, speak up and make sure you find the right fit.
This event isn't anything special, but it is one of my favorite memories recently. I have 2 dogs, a pure bred Akbash and a pitbull mix, and we take trips to the dog parks all the time, usually a couple times a day if I have time and weather permits. Lately, there has been a family with the absolute sweetest little boy, who also is autistic. You can tell when he isn't having the best day, but his parents take him to the park every day to watch the dogs, because he is more calm and comfortable. Lately I have been going at the same time as the family, and my dogs run up to him and tackle him to the ground and give him all the loves and kisses and the little boy never seems so happy as when he's playing with the dogs. His parents were telling me how he is a non audible and non touch autistic, but every time he sees the pups, he gives them his best hug and makes his parents so happy. They had been struggling to help him feel more comfortable, and dogs were the cure. They came back a few days later and introduced me to his new companion, Chief, a 6 month old Golden Retriever.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Do I know what areas I need the most help in?
Will I be able to be completely honest about how much help I really need, or will I pretend to know more than I really do?
Will I listen to the teacher while they are trying to help me?

Pricing usually depends on the type of tutoring, how often, and whether or not there are special needs I need to accommodate for. My pricing will usually sit between $20-$30 per hour. However, this is just a range and I am more than happy to talk with any family to come to a price that they can afford if not in my range.
