About Anna

I am an organized and dedicated educator with 5 years experience teaching elementary education. I believe that all scholars should have the opportunity to reach their full potental so they are prepared for success in the colleges and careers of their choice. I taught first grade in New York City for four years. I have also taught grades Prep - 6 in Melbourne, Australia for a year. I have a strong passion for creating hands on learning experiences for young students so that learning feels like a game rather than work.

I am a certified Elementary Education (Grades 1-6) teacher in Maryland and New York.

I love seeing the moment when a student lights up because "they get it!" I love the smile they get, the confidence that shines through, and how proud they feel after they have mastered a skill they have been working on. That is the most rewarding moment!

I have always known that I wanted to be a teacher! I love working with children and I have a passion for education. I studied elementary education in college and then began teaching the fall after I graduated.

I graduated with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from the University of Maryland, College Park in 2014. I then worked in New York City, teaching first grade, for 4 years in a public charter school with a rigorous curriculum. My last teaching experience was this past year in Melbourne, Australia, where I was able to teach all grades (Prep - 6) throughout the year.

Every student learns in their own way so I like to start by just getting to know the student. Depending on the subject we are working in, I like to do some general activies just to get a feel for what they already know, their thought process, and what we need to work toward. In order to achieve their goals I will show them how to do a skill and then help them through working it out on their own through games and center like activies. The more practice the better!

I have worked in culturally diverse settings with students from kindergarten to grade 6. The majority of my work has been with younger students, specifically in grade 1, and that is the age I love teaching the most.

Every student learns in a different way so you have to pick a teacher that you think you will learn best from! Do you like to do a lot of independent practice? Do you like to play games to learn? Think about how YOU like to learn and look for a teacher who will mesh well with you.

Before leaving Australia the school that I was working at held their bi-weekly assembly with the entire school. They surprised me by calling me to the front to wish me farewell and the principal asked how many students at the school had a chance to work with me in my time there. 700 student's hands went up and it was a moment that I'll never forget. When you work with students on a daily basis it is easy to forget all the work you put in. But seeing how many students I was able to work with and make a difference in was a very special moment.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out

Are you really struggling to understand this concept, or are you just bored/uninterested?

What part of the process is confusing you? Walk through it step by step and pinpoint where you are starting to struggle.

What is your goal? What are we working toward together?
