About Jeff

I'm a music professional with 14 years experience playing saxophone (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Baritone, and Bass) and earned a Bachelor of Music from Illinois State University with over 100 hours of musical coursework. I have lectured at the university level and have recorded for international music library projects. I've received the Harlan Peithman award for excellence in music theory and was awarded full scholarship to attend Ithaca College in pursuit of a Master of Music degree.

I enjoy expanding the depth of musical appreciation for those I teach. While my expertise lies in saxophone and music theory, my passion lies in expanding indviduals' depth of musical knowledge and the myriad ways in which musical knowledge is applicable to many facets of life.

I began teaching by mentoring younger peers. I saw it as a career path and made arrangements to lecture undergraduate courses while still pursuing my undergraduate degree and have peer-mentored since.

I have studied saxophone and music composition with world renowned professors across my 14 years of music education and have participated in 5 years of peer-mentorship at the collegiate level.

About the lesson

For new students I like to assess their level of knowledge and address any gaps in knowledge they do have. A strong base and grasp of the most fundamental aspects of music allow students to thrive through the long-term process of music education.

I have worked with students with no saxophone experience, students with no musical knowledge, to students with introductory collegiate experience. And I believe all students are different, thus I will individualize the attention I give to students because one size does not fit all.

Find a teacher who will listen to your goals and work with you to achieve them. A good teacher is interested in the challenge of learning the best way to help you and will go the extra mile to learn how to help you achieve.

Students should think about what their goals are, what level of proficiency they wish to achieve, and why they wish to pursue music. And as a teacher, I am able to work with students and parents to help figure out the answers to these questions.
