About Gordon

Not only have I been playing for the past 30 years, I have been performing, touring, and teaching for at least half of that time. The saxophone is not only one of the newest instruments in the woodwind family, it is a distinctly unique and specific sound in the universe. I am not only a practitioner of this belief, I am also definitely a fan! Having that said I will help you find," Your Sound" and equip, encourage and enfranchise you towards achieving your goals.

Having received my degree in Jazz studies from a Thelonius Monk based program. I have taken these concepts and applied them to Real World situations. Therefore I can show you how to squeak, honk, and blow your way to having fun with accomplishing your goals on this musical journey. In a nutshell, I've basically been on tour for past 13 years, worked as a house musician for Carnival Cruise Lines, been in a fairly successful Hip-Hop band ( that was a real thing), played a lot of R&B, Love the Jazz, and listen to classical music every time I get a chance. Honestly, teaching started working with me. I was walking across campus one day and a friend of mine told me that the director of Jazz Studies was looking for me ( this is before everyone had a cell phone) and wanted to seriously talk to me. So I rushed over to his office to see what was the matter. He then explained to me that he had a very large and pressing situation coming up and could I teach one of his classes for him. Of course I said,"yes" and the rest is history.

I have a degre in Music Performance ( Jazz Studies) from Hampton University. Graduated from Culver Military School ( Band Company), Performed at the Kennedy Center (summer 2019), SESC ( Brazillian Tour 2017-2018), London Jazz Café (2016) Ambassadors of Jazz Tour ( U.S. State Department 2015) to name a few things more upon request. About the lesson

Ok, so you are New to the saxophone or the world of music in general. We'll talk about what you like and what you think that you might want. First things first, we're gonna find out what you think a saxophone sounds like and start working on that. Then we'll start you on your way to unlocking the instrument, teaching you how to breath, stand, and most importantly start building out that saxophone brain. I like to call it the space ship.

I have worked with a very wide variety of students. From the collegiate level to the " at risk" students, young to old, pro to amateur.

Details

I do have kind of a standard but it does vary dependent upon level of proficiency and experience of the student. My min. Is $50 an hour and we can work from there. We can do half hour slots too. Just tell me what you're working with and I'll work with you.
