About Dorcas

My service stands out because I have been a professional singer since 1973 and I enjoy helping clients to reach their fullest capabilities. As an instructor over the years, I have learned that patience and consistent practice is necessary if one is to fully embrace their musical/vocal skills. I believe that the learning process should be fun, not stressful! People all over the world have used music to express their feelings, as music is a universal language.

I enjoy teaching clients how to sing because I believe that they would be able to express how they feel. People can use music to express how they feel in a way that is creative and encourages diversity. Thus, music can be passed along to allow more people to understand it in a way that is inspiring.

I started teaching children and adult choir(s) since the 1990s. I have also co-instructed courses at private elementary schools and public recreation centers.

My training has come from mentoring under other professionals such as: my mother (a pianist and vocal instructor), George Clinton (Parliment-Funkadelic), Foley (Miles Davis' Bass Player), and many more great singers and muscians.

About the lesson

When working with a new student, the first lesson is always a "Gettting to Know Each Other" session that encourages students to get comfortable with working with me. I will also help the student formulate goals that they are trying to reach.

I have worked with a very diverse range of clients. I have instructed students across various different ages and cultural groups.

I would advise a student to find an instructor that is patient and is able to give them what they are looking for (in terms of reaching their fullest potential).

I was invited to sing the Ohio State Jazz and Rib Festival this year, and it was a fun experience.!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
A student should consider what they would like to achieve from the experience, as well as deciding what musical genres make them comfortable.
