About Tara

I specialize in teaching my students the art of harmony, training them on techniques to stay on pitch, and engaging their intuitive ability to sing by ear. I bring with me a love of music and 26+ years of singing experience. You could say I started my musical journey when I lead and directed my first multi-church choir at the age of 6. Since then, I have had a wide variety of experiences, from touring with various groups to serving as a paid minister of music for several years.

I also have ADHD and for this reason, have a very wide taste in music and a high level of natural creativity. I'm a great teacher for students with the condition because I can relate to some of our shared struggles. I also have the flexibility of working with those with any type of mental difference, as I am a problem solver and love helping people be themselves 100%.

The thing I love most about being able to work with students is being able to watch them grow! I always ask my students what their vocal goal or goals are before we begin. By structuring the lessons around each student's skillset and intended goals, every voice is affirmed and is taught how best to "play" their vocal instruments.

As a constant pursuer of knowledge, I can't tell you how much genuine joy I get by meeting so many different people and learning so much from engaging with students of all levels. With each person I'm blessed to work with, I'm able to hear and enhance another amazing and unique human voice. We get to do what humans do best; collaborate and become even better together. I look forward to being able to truly partner with you as you discover your true capabilities, and are able to embrace and share your unique voice with confidence to whoever you want!

Being the child of a traveling musician, I was exposed to many musical environments and have served in various levels of leadership throughout the years. In addition to being able to sing, I also can also play basic piano and drums, arrange music, and compose lyrics and melodies. I have a copious amount of real-world experience with music and am comfortable with musical theory and reading music; my specialty, though, is in helping singers utilize their ears effectively, so they can craft and invent through improvisation and experimentation. I have also done a lot of public speaking for various honors conferences and other public-facing functions. This means we can also make sure you're prepared to speak in-between songs, if needed, or just be able to speak more confidently in general.

In the websites area, I included a link to a song I covered by Erykah Badu called "Cleva". I arranged all of the background vocals and did the lead on the song as well. About the lesson

When I start working with a new student, I start off by getting to know them, their vocal background experience, if any, and begin unpacking their vocal goals. Some of these goals might include:

- Being able to sing a certain song well.

- Singing a certain genre or being able to cross over genres.

- Overcoming stage fright and growing vocal courage.

- Sounding like a certain singer.

The only goal I will not help with is that last one. Your voice is uniquely yours and when being used properly, can sound better than you expected. More than anything, I want you to accept your voice and get to know it more intimately. It's not fair to judge your voice at the beginning of your journey. Instead, be curious and inquisitive about it and discover just what your vocal instrument can do when properly trained and supported.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I think before a student ever engages with a teacher about their needs, they need to closely inspect their motivations for wanting to learn to sing. Judgment aside, it's important to understand your attraction to the craft as it is this that will shape your voice more than anything.

I can provide you with weekly virtual singing lessons for $60 per hour plus a $50 non-refundable commitment fee. I also offer lesson packages that can be pre-purchased at the following discounted rates:

- Monthly Lesson Bundle, 60-mins. each, $275 ($55/lesson)

- Bi-weekly Lessons, 60-mins. each, $75/hr.

- Two Lessons, 30-mins. each, $140 ($70/hr.)

- One Lesson/month, 60-mins., $100/hr.
