About Harriet

Ms. Bennish is a professional singer and voice instructor residing in Long Beach, California. She is a voice teacher for children, adults, and seniors. As a voice instructor for teachers, motivational speakers, and other professionals who rely on their voice to communicate, she helps eliminate voice fatigue caused by incorrect usage of the speaking and singing voice.

Harriet works with both amateurs and professionals to IMPROVE TONE QUALITY, INCREASE BREATH CONTROL, and INCREASE VOLUME OF SOFT-SPOKEN SPEAKERS.

Ms. Bennish attended the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore, Maryland, and received a Bachelor of Music Degree in Voice and Performance from West Virginia University in Morgantown, West Virginia. Early on in her career she was selected as a quarter-finalist in the Los Angeles Regional Metropolitan Opera auditions.

Ms. Bennish also holds a Masters Degree in Social Work and has tapped into those skills necessary in working with a diverse population.

She has performance experience in opera, musical theater, choral, oratorio, cantorial music, and the recital stage. For nearly ten years, Ms. Bennish was the soprano soloist and section leader for the widely acclaimed “Long Beach Chorale.”

Musical Theatre filled the last ten years including a two-and-a-half-year performance run at the American Girl Place in Los Angeles performing in the “American Girls Revue”. Fiddler on the Roof, Carousel, Working, and Most Happy Fella are also among the shows she has performed in. In addition to her performance and teaching schedule, Harriet has been the featured soloist with the Long Beach Klezmer Band, “The Shetl Menschen”. Ms. Bennish also accepts invitations to perform for non-profit organizations.

When a student discovers that they really CAN sing AND improve their singing voice (and sometimes speaking voice) it gives me great pleasure.

But I get the biggest thrill showing students, who CANNOT match pitches, that with a lot of hard work and concentration...they CAN!

Working with the 'older' student is very statisfying as they fulfill a life-long desire to learn how to sing. My oldest student was '90'.

About the lesson

Singing lessons offered by Harriet are tailored to each student's needs and level. Lessons can also be held online. Lessons are also available in Long Beach. The first lesson is free to define learning goals and methodology.
