About Blythe

I am a Metropolitan Opera soprano with 30 years of teaching experience. I have a Masters degree in Voice Pedagogy from Penn State. I specialize in classical vocal technique, and music theatre interpretation, and style. I love working with singers - ages 13 - 80+.

I love sharing my knowledge and love of my art form with others. I love helping singers improve and grow - whatever their age/level. I believe in lifelong learning. I teach Mindful Musicianship

I began studying Voice at age 13, went to conservatory, had a singing career. Singers began seeking me out. I still consider my example of singing to be my strongest pedagogical tool.

MM in Voice Pedagogy from Penn State. 40 year career in opera, concert, and musical theatre - at the Metropolitan Opera, and on Broadway, as well as regional venues in Europe & the US. Prof of Voice at leading conservatories, colleges, universities since 1990. Currently voice faculty at Salve Regina University, Newport, RI. Lifelong active member of NATS - National Association of Teachers of Singing.

About the lesson

Potential students begin with a preliminary sample lesson w me to see if we’re a fit before committing to a series of lessons. Preliminary lessons are an hour. The fee is $75. I teach students ages 13 & up. Ocassionally I will accept a mature 12 year old student. This is determined on a case by case basis.

I teach people who want to understand their instrument and to improve - whatever their level - ages 12-80+. I teach classical and musical theatre technique, style and repertoire.

Look for a teacher who is a member of NATS. Take preliminary lessons with a few teachers until you find the teacher who is a “fit.” Be willing and open to expanding your musical horizons. The teacher’s job is to guide your learning and insight into the art and craft of singing.

Details

Preliminary lesson $75 payable at time of lesson. Students 13-18 commit to and prepay for 14 week session corresponding to school term. Tuition $1000. Partial scholarships available on case by case basis. Other payment plans/individual lesson options are available to adult and professional students.
