About Katie

As a palyer and now coach I value fundamentals. Drills that isolate specific parts of a movement are crucial to muscle memory. By breaking down a swing, pitch, throw, or any other task piece by piece can improve our over all performance. I love and believe in hardwork, but let's be honest softball is FUN! If we are not enjoying what we are doing, we fail ourselves. A positive mindset is the key to a sucessful ball player!

A little background-

I registered for teeball at the age of 5. I played until 18. At 7 years old I started select/travel ball, and traveled around the country to play in competitive tournaments. I had college interest (mostly division 2 or smaller division 1 programs), but unfotuantley at 16 I blew out my knee. After surgery and extensive physical therapy I came back from my injury and went to play for a junior college. After the first semester I had to make the difficult decision to hang up my cleats. It was heart breaking. I have always told people, softball was my first love and I will never love anything more! Softball is hard work but the results are woth every minute.

I can offer instruction on-

*Pitching* ( I have pitched since 8 years old! This was my primary position, and what i was recruited for)

Fielding

Throwing

I got started by giving lessons here and there to players/future player that know me, or someone close to me.

I played almost every postion on the field at some point, excluding short stop. I know the game like the back of my hand. This was what I dedicated my life to for 13 years.

About the lesson

With every student, no matter the skill level, I like to start with basic and strategic drills. Different drills that target different pieces will build a better end result. By targeting each piece of a motion and repeating it, we build muscle memory.

I have worked with all types of girls. From just starting out to highschoolers. Fundamenatls are crucial no matter your skill level or age. When we critique the small things first the big picture comes together much smoother. Any slight movement that is off will completley alter the end result. So by using drills we can target the problem areas and improve on them, or by using drills we learn and truly grasp the motion by puttuing it together piece by piece.

Fundamentals are KEY!!! Drills are CRUCIAL!!! Muscle memory is dependent on the break down and critiqing of every movement in a motion. We need our bodies to feel the correct way of doing something. Repitition of this correct way will ensure that in a high pressure situation our body will take over if our mind is focused elsewhere.

Softball is back in the olympics!!!! Growing up every young girl aspired to be an olympian. During my career players all over the world were devestated to see it go. I am so elated that women have this oppurtunity once again.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
All questions are welcomed. I hope my students feel so comfortable that they ask without any hesitation! I am open them asking me "but, why?". I have a reason for everything we do and would be more than happy to explain the purpose of the activity.
