About Richard

You will write and finish songs right from the start that you are proud of! You'll learn simple, repeatable techniques for mastering songwriting.

IN 30 years in the business, I've written over 100 songs for feature films, off-Broadway musicals, albums, orchestra concerts, and renowned soloists receiving commissions and awards, including awards from ASCAP and BMI.

My book on songwriting is scheduled to be published in August.

30 years of professional experience teaching and as a professional songwriter/composer. Additional training in empowering people to success.

About the lesson

With a new student, I do an enrollment call where I get to know the student's goals, experience, and current ability. Out of that, I create a personalized six and twelve-month plan to have the student reach their goals.

I've worked with middle school and high school age students including homeschooled; college students, adult learners, and professional musicians

Look for a teacher who you want to do a good job for but that you're not too freaked out by. You want a teacher that's committed to you succeeding which isn't always the case.

Recently, I traveled to Iowa where Grinnell College performed one of my first professional works for orchestra. I got to meet and interact with dozens of talented and wonderful students.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Why do you want to study songwriting or composition? What kind of music do you want to write for, specifically, where do you want your music to be heard? What kind of music do you love to listen to? Do you play an instrument or sing? Have you co-written or worked with performers? Ensembles? Do you do lyrics and music?

Yes, pricing is available in packages based on the length of the commitment in 3, 6 and 12-month blocks. The first call is $100, but I waive the fee for everyone (unless canceled without notice.) Prices for a thirty-minute lesson start at $50.
